Me Made May ’14 – Final Roundup

Well, Me Made May ’14 is officially over! I enjoyed the challenge but, I am happy that it has run its course.

Day 29 (Thursday) – This was a very simple outfit. I just wore a vintage sky blue dress with my A to Z cardigan. As you can see from the photo, I just went for a quick bathroom selfie.

day 29

Day 30 (Friday) – This outfit is not new to you because I just posted about this finished Mei-Mei. I wore it with one of my favorite strapless dresses. Bolero’s work great with strapless dresses.day 30

Day 31 (Saturday) – Can you see my excitement about the last day of MMM? This is yet another Mei-Mei cardigan (I haven’t blogged about it yet) in red. I wore it with a navy strapless dress and my red chucks. day 31

OK, that concludes Me Made May for 2014.

Me Made May ’14 – Week 4

Only 3 days left! While it has been fun, I do look forward to the end. So, let’s get started on the details from Week 4.

Day 22 (Thursday) – I was off this week from work so, I didn’t have any major plans. So, I went to visit my family and went for a laid back look. I really like how loose and comfortable the Casual Summer Top is. This is the second time this top has appeared during MMM.

day 22

Day 23 (Friday) – This was a sad day. A little girl of 5 was laid to rest (who I loved dearly) after battling with brain cancer. We were asked to wear orange and white to the funeral because orange was her favorite color. I had just finished this orange Miette by Andi Satterlund. After the service and burial I went to my family’s house for the pic for MMM and my sister’s dog, Pheonia, decided to make an appearance.day 23

Day 24 (Saturday) – This may be one of my favorite outfits from the week. I like how the crochet bib necklace, a pattern from A Common Thread blog, looked with this outfit. Again, this is the first skirt I ever made using this tutorial. It was a nice, relaxed outfit that still looked put together.day 24

Day 25 (Sunday) – I actually wore a different dress earlier that day to church but, I didn’t get a pic. But, this is what I wore after church and I still wore the same Marion cardigan. What can I say about this outfit? It’s basic and it works.day 25

Day 26 (Monday) – This was Memorial Day and I didn’t feel like wearing anything Me Made. I had just washed my hair, detangled, and then braided it up. Then, I realized that I could wear a hat over my braids. So, I just slipped on this crochet hat  from the book Crochet That Fits. I have had this hat for years and I have never blogged about it or put it up on Ravelry. It is the only thing Me Made in this outfit. As you can see, I am super casual on this day.
day 26

Day 27 (Tuesday) – This was my first day back to work after my week off. Of course, I went for bright colors so, I could be in a great mood. Again, the Miette cardigan has reappeared. I am also wearing my One-Hour Skirt. This outfit was definitely a favorite. The formula of high waist skirts and cropped cardigans never fails.day 27

Day 28 (Wednesday) – And this is what I am wearing today. This is the second time that my white chevron lace cardigan has made an appearance. I really like how it looks with my favorite maxi dress. Ok, let’s talk about this maxi dress. I had planned on wearing it earlier in MMM but, I couldn’t find it. I tore my room and closets apart looking for it last week until the wee hours of the morning. I finally gave up and figured I lost it when I moved. Well, when looking through my fabric stash I noticed that I had stored some dresses at the top of the linen closet. And I found the dress! So, I wore it today. Ok, the end.day 28That concludes my Week 4 of Me Made May. I’ll do a post later for the last 3 days.

Me Made May ’14 – Week 3

Wow! I can’t believe we only have 10 more days left in Me Made May ’14. I have really enjoyed it so far. Check out my outfit details from the previous week.

Day 15 (Thursday) – So, out of nowhere it turned cold in Alabama. However, I was kinda excited because I got to wear a pullover. I didn’t think I would get a chance to wear any of my pullovers because it does get suffocating in the hot weather we usually have in Alabama. This is the Aiken pullover, a design by Andi Satterlund.

day 15

Day 16 (Friday) – Well, this is my version of casual Friday. I am wearing my handmade yellow skirt with my school’s shirt. The colors are perfect because it is Tuskegee University’s colors. I really liked this outfit.

day 16

Day 17 (Saturday) – We had a Prayer Breakfast at my church and I wanted to wear something casual yet chic. This fit the bill. I really like this outfit because it is almost entirely pink and that is my favorite color. The Hetty cardigan is a another great pattern by Andi Satterlund and hopefully one day I’ll have time to make another in green.day 17

Day 18 (Sunday) – I am wearing the Hortencia cardigan with a purple dress. As you can see, this is my “lazy day” outfit. I just paired a cardigan with a dress. day 18

Day 19 (Monday) – I am actually off work this week but, I had to dress up to go to my niece’s school play. This past Saturday I finished my Miette cardigan. So, this was the perfect time to wear it. I really like the bright orange color. Expect a blog post on this cardigan in the future.day 19

Day 20 (Tuesday) – Well, the Casual Summer Top has reappeared. I went for super comfy on this day. I just put the top over a lightweight dress with some sandals. I like how the outfit turned out.day 20

Day 21 (Wednesday) – And this is what I am wearing today. My favorite polka dot pink dress with my very first knit cardigan. This is the Beulah cardigan and I still adore it to this day. Today, I had to go to my niece’s promotion exercise so, I went for casual yet put together.day 21Well, that concludes Week 3. I am kinda sad that Me Made Made ’14 is about to end. I need to savor these last few days.

Me Made May ’14 – Week 2

Week 2 is complete. I find myself repeating items more so, I try to mix it up a bit. I’m still enjoying the challenge. So, check out the details below.

Day 1 (Thursday) – This was one of those days at work that I had to make sure I dressed up a bit more than usual but, I still stayed true to my style. I am wearing my Hetty cardigan, which is definitely one of my favorite and most worn items to date. The skirt is thrifted and I upcyled it a bit by hemming it up to the knee. Originally, it came to right above my ankles, which wasn’t a very flattering look.

???????????????????

Day 2 (Friday) – I really enjoy the outfits that are almost completely me made. This is my white version of the Casual Summer Top and I paired it with my first skirt that I ever sewed. It made for an easy and breezy outfit. I paired it with my ankle boots, which I would wear every single day if I didn’t want them to get worn out.

???????

Day 3 (Saturday) – This would have to be my favorite outfit for the week. Considering how I had to rush to my sister’s house early that morning to watch my nieces and nephew, it came together very nicely.  I very rarely wear pants (I didn’t realize how true this was until MMM.) so, I like that this outfit changes up the pace a bit. I am also pleased with the mix of green, turquoise, and blue in this ensemble.  I am wearing my A to Z cardigan and the rest of the outfit was thrifted and gifted.

???????

Day 4 (Sunday) – This is the most boring and dull outfit out of all my MMM outfits. I was headed to church and I really couldn’t think of an outfit. So, I just paired a fancy dress with my Beulah cardigan. The colors are boring and the shoes are boring with the ensemble. In retrospect, I should have at least worn some red shoes with a red flower brooch. It is what it is.???????

Day 5 (Monday) – The goofy smile is because my sister was making me laugh. And because I was headed to work, I didn’t have enough time to retake the picture. On Mondays, I try to make sure to wear something really fun and bright to avoid “the case of the Mondays”. I am wearing my Marion cardigan with a thrifted upcyled skirt. This was another skirt that came at an unflattering length and I hemmed it up to the knee. I don’t know what made me pair this vivid blue with my purple cardigan but, I really like the colors together. Also, if you look closely I am wearing my Bouquet earrings, which is a pattern from Crochet Today. I never blogged or put these on Ravelry but, I do like them.???????

Day 2 (Tuesday) – My mother bought me some owl printed fabric last week and I knew I had to make a skirt with it immediately. This skirt is my version of the One-Hour Skirt. I added length, pockets, and lining to the skirt 😀 I will have to blog about this skirt at a later date that so, you can see the details up close and personal. I am wearing my Hortencia cardigan with it. Again, if it were up to me I would wear this cardigan every day.  So, I just make myself content and wear it every week. Notice, I am wearing my owl brooch and owl necklace (Also, gifts from my mother). There were owls everywhere on this day 🙂 Oh yeah, check out my new shoes. Love them!???????

Day 14 (Wednesday) – And the Chevron Lace cardigan is back. I don’t have anything major to say about this outfit. It’s definitely a lazy day outfit, which means I just put a favorite dress with a cardigan. What can I say? It works.???????

Me Made May ’14 – Week 1

Well, I have completed my first full week of MMM14. I can say that it wasn’t too hard. I just have to consciously remember each day that I have to wear something handmade. I started out with my least worn items in order to challenge myself to use these items. I mean it is very easy to wear a cropped cardigan because that fits seamlessly into my wardrobe but, those crochet tops prove a bit difficult to style. So, check out the pics and details below to see what I have worn.

Day 1 (Thursday) – I actually like this top however, I don’t wear it much. Because of that, I started off MMM14 with this Casual Summer Top that I crocheted last summer. I like how flowy and boho it is. As you can see, I wore this outfit to work.

???????????????????

Day 2 (Friday) – This is another work week outfit and another rarely worn top. I made this two tone shrug, a design by the Double Stitch twins, a couple of years ago. My style has changed since then, which is the reason that this is not worn very much. I paired it with a green dress and it made for an interesting outfit. It’s not my favorite kind but, it’ll do.
???????

Day 3 (Saturday) – Saturday is my “Me” day. I really enjoy my day off from work and I love doing errands, shopping, visiting my family, and catching up on projects. So, I like to be comfortable. It was a beautiful Saturday in the upper 70s but, I still carted my cardigan along for those very cold buildings and cold cars. This cardigan is my workhorse cardigan. I drag it along with me to avoid being stuck in cold environments. It is made with the cheapest yarn (Red Heart Super Saver) so, it endures.  This free pattern from Knitty is the Shapely Boyfriend cardigan.
???????

Day 4 (Sunday) – I went to church on this day. On the first Sunday, the ladies are asked to wear all white. I am so happy that I made this white cardigan a couple of years ago! It is not my favorite color to make things with but, it does come in handy. This is the Chevron Lace Cardigan, a free pattern from Ravelry. I never did blog about this cardigan so, let me give you a few details. It was made with Bernat Softee Baby Solids in white. I modified it a bit by adding 5 buttonholes to the top (the pattern only calls for one), making the sleeves longer, and the length longer.

???????????????????

Day 5 (Monday) – I loved this outfit!!! This is my type of outfit. If I could I would wear it everyday. I finished my yellow skirt over the weekend and I could not wait to wear it. I also made the cropped cardigan, which is the Hortencia pattern by Andi Satterlund. It was a fun outfit and very bright  to go with the cheerful day.

???????

Day 6 (Tuesday) – This is a work week outfit and my go-to lazy day type of outfit. I didn’t feel like thinking much about what I was going to wear so, I put on a dress with a cardigan. This uniform never fails and I adore how this outfit turned out. This is my crochet Elsa jacket and to this day it is still my favorite crochet creation. I keep saying I am going to make another but, I haven’t got to it yet. I am going to have to remedy that because this jacket is just fabulous. This was another gorgeous day (in the upper 80s) so, this jacket worked like a charm in my office building. However, as soon as I got in my car I had to shed it. But, I picked it back up for church that night.

???????

Day 7 (Wednesday) – Well, this is what I am wearing today. This was my very first crochet cardigan and I still like to pull it out and wear it. When I first made this pattern, I added the button to the top and an i-cord waist. Well, I didn’t really like how those aspects limited it so, I removed the button and the i-cord belt. I always wear the cardigan open and it just works. Today, I am wearing it with a favorite dress of mine. We are having yet another gorgeous and sunny day in Alabama so, this dress and cardigan works like a charm. I really like lacy crochet cardigans because it allows for the breeze to come through and touch my skin. I made this cardigan using the same Chevron Lace pattern that I used for the white cardigan. This version has shorter sleeves, shorter length, and one buttonhole.

day 7

Whew! That concludes Week 1 of MMM14 and I will keep you posted about the upcoming weeks. I really don’t see how fashion bloggers take a picture of themselves everyday because this gets tiresome.

Me-Made-May ’14

memademay14

So many of the bloggers that I am a follower of have been talking about how they plan on participating in Me-Made-May ’14. I especially love those posts and they seem like so much fun. I kept saying in my mind One day I’ll participate when I make more wearables. Then, I decided why not participate this year! The purpose of MMM14 is to challenge yourself to use the handmade items that you have already created. This will definitely be a challenge because I don’t own a lot of handmades–at least not enough for everyday of the month. So, there will be many repeats. I also plan on incorporating upcycled items in my closet for this challenge.

Here’s my pledge:

‘I, Constance from yarningoverthedays.wordpress.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’14. I endeavour to wear at least one handmade or upcycled item each day for the duration of May 2014’.

I will keep you post. I am so excited! You should join too. Check out the details HERE.
